[00:00] in today's video I'm going to be comparing two AI app Builders data button and bolt new in comparing both of these Builders I'm going to build out the exact same application we're going to build out an application on both platforms see which one performs best and it's going to be based off Reddit search API that allows us to find trending topics for trending videos therefore by the end of this video we will know which app builder is best and more specifically which one's best at creating real applications that will scale what do you mean Corbin I mean I don't want an app builder that's just going to build me little MVPs little fun things I don't want that want to build
[00:30] out an actual software that I can sell sound good let's jump in welcome back y'all today's video is sponsored by data button and they hit me up and they're like hey we want to do a video together I'm like okay let's do a video where we compare your platform to bolt new therefore in this video we're going to find out which platform is best data button or bolt new when it comes to creating real applications real applications Corbin real some of youall might be like Corin what do you mean real I mean like we can actually sell the software and it isn't like hey we created a software in 5 minutes hooray no no no no we want real stuff here therefore the showcase that let's build
[01:00] out the exact same app on both these platforms we got data button right here and we got Bolt new right here step number one the beginning process of creating an application let's go ahead and compare the two with data button we're going to hit new app so right off the bat with data button we're able to put in very specific directions we want the app to go EG pitch app description target audience all right coming over to bolt here let me zoom in a little we are able to put in a prompt okay that's how you start an application within bolt so the problem I'm going to use in Bolt today is going to be this one right here create a tool that uses Reddit search AP API and I can use open ai's API so at a
[01:32] base level when giving direction to bolt very much free form like go ahead write some words there proceed coming back over to data button though we're able to specialize a little bit more here which in reality is pretty important when it comes to software development therefore that might be one of the first drawbacks of Bolt new as it is to free form for actual application and development you're going to notice a theme here where my gauge of whether a platform is good or not is creating real software if that's not your gauge and that's not what you care about and you just want to play around that's not really the premise and the gut check of what we're
[02:03] going to do in today's video today's video is like you actually are serious about building software sound good let's keep going for the app name we're going to do best content ever as we're going to be able to find content based off Reddit search API that's trending so for the pitch I'm going to say create a tool that uses Reddit search API and I can use open a API we want to find a training topics and then get possible video ideas on this for the ad description going to say I provide my open AI key and then hit F topics based on what I want to search for target audience is going to be content creators at least in this context in addition data but and ask what we're optimizing for when it comes to screen size we're going to say desktop furthermore asking
[02:34] for the theme between light and dark if you don't know what that means it's like a darker UI or like a lighter UI I typically opt for darker UI as it doesn't hurt the eyes as much especially late at night if you're like on your computer you don't want like that white screen blaring in your eyes and then for the design guidelines we can go like simple modern dark UI So based on this which gives us a better footing to start creating an application let's go and add this to our bolt so same situation here create a tool that uses Reddit search AP AP and I can use open AI API I provide my open AI key and hit find topics based on what I want to search do Dark theme
[03:06] UI with step one done let's see the initial start of our application generate starting point with AI we are generating bolt start bolting now here's a big thing that I care about especially in the context of using AI app Builders if I put in a prompt and I make a request is this going to just rip up all the past coding I've done and they get me in some weird Loop that I just keep asking the same question and then I get a completely different UI again what's important with this kind of development is that when you put in a prompt the code that is changed isn't like 90% of
[03:37] your application because then you'll just end up in indefinite loose that's no good first things first let's go and discuss UI real quick so we're comfortable of what's even happening right now obviously this is we're going to chat of Bolt new here to make changes to our application this is our preview and then in order for us to get the code we simply hit code here and then we can kind of see all the files that they made so far I want you to think of preview like Local Host 3000 or just basically a local enironment this isn't a live website link that we can actually access on the internet so coming over to data button it's presented a little bit
[04:07] different so we have actually all the relevant files to our application to the left here as you'll notice here in order to actually access those files you got to go into code and then kind of Cipher through this following this to actually see how your application looks it's right above me therefore with some simple clicks I can see what it looks like in tablet or mobile and keep going in this way and then finally on data button side in order to chat and make changes to the code you'll find it on on the right panel over here here we go let's go and figure out if either of these applications were correct on the first go around here so I'm going to go
[04:37] ahead and simply provide my API key on both and then ask a question okay so with our API key saved here though it doesn't seem like the pop-up is closing therefore I can't actually search anything yet so we're going to have to clarify that for bolt let's check out data button we over to data button here I'm going to go ahead and paste my key so far so good let's see if it works as de side not I'll be extremely impressed if this works just off the very first initialization of this app let's try it though go ahead and say F trending topics about what are new topics in AI about open AI boom okay so obviously it doesn't work right after the bat as we got to clarify a little bit more stuff
[05:08] when it comes to the type API etc etc but so far we got a good UI here even to the extent that we can go light mode and dark mode if we choose to do so therefore let's go ahead and come back to bolt here and let's make it so that the open AI API key goes away when we actually save it so let's do that we'll go ahead and say when I put in the open AI API key make it so the pop-up goes away so I can actually search something enter therefore let's come back over to data button here and since it's already one step ahead let's go ahead and ask it to connect it to a Reddit search API that we can actually search Reddit with and then use artificial intelligence
[05:38] from that open AI API key to get the value we want and the idea here is to get a live feed of Reddit see what's trending and then video topics based off what we searched and watch this with just a simple sentence I'm going to say let's use reddits public Json API endpoint which does not require authentication we can make requests to Reddit search. Json or subreddit search. Json hit enter we're going to let this build coming back over to bolt here it looks like the pop-up went away but I'm hoping it actually saved the API key let's try it so we'll go ahead and try the same question here what are new
[06:09] topics in AI about open AI search okay so we did get a problem here and air happened with the AI and then the Reddit Ser the Reddit post it found has to do with a possible Affair okay not not good Bo not good part of me thinks that when I told her to put the popup away and quote unquote save the API key it's not actually doing that let's go ahead and try their little solution here a fix problem and see what happens fix problem looking good so far with data button here and one thing I like about data button is its ability to walk you through step by step of next things to
[06:40] integrate right one thing I've noticed Beyond any type of app builder is you put in a prompt and then that thing just goes but not goes in a good way it goes in a way that's like whoa whoaa I didn't tell you to do that I didn't tell you to do that don't do that as you see from data butt in here though it's asking me what it wants me to do on the next steps whether that's basic search endpoint to fetch trending post filtering options results display and formatting and then asking me how I should prioritize that pretty nice therefore let's take his guidance here and do step one basic search end points to fetch trending post I'mma paste that enter coming back over
[07:11] to bolt here let's try it again supposedly it fixed it it's told me it fixed it search it did not fix it so it definitely doesn't seem like it fixed it it's just grabbing a random Reddit thread that has nothing to do with AI here and we might be running into a loop with bolt and Loops are very annoying so let's go and take a step back with bolt here and try some different proctoring I'm going to go ahead and do I keep getting err of AI analyze I need to provide my open AI API key also can I have it so that the Reddit search results this right here actually has to do something with my search is that too much to ask for let's hit enter we're
[07:41] going to let this keep generating here coming back over the data button here it's asking for a confirmation so I'm going to say yes this is the kind of pace I like here CU imagine you've been working on an app for 3 weeks you put in the wrong prompt and then everything just gets messed up that's no fun so we're going to go ahead and let data Buton write this code all right so we got the popup again let's give key I'm going paste my key in here I'm going to save my API key and I hope I just hope this goes away save API key okay so I went away this time now let's go ahead and try the same question I'm going hit search no relevant post found that's
[08:12] probably not true as open AI is pretty relevant in the AI space therefore we got to do some more work here let me see about like being very specific here let's go ahead and try when I search a topic like AI I need you to search through all of Reddit and find a posts that are trending then give me possible video topics I could do based on that hit submit let's go ahead and let this generate looking good here so far my data button and one thing I want to point out here is notice how it's structured user interface wise when I requested a very specific action to incur in the backend in this context searching reddits API we can see it over
[08:42] there now we can actually see the specific file that's associated with that request this is helpful if you have a ton of different stuff happening in the back end so you can kind of Click through and have an idea of what's even happening is a side note the way data button creates applications is using a python backend which allows really good scalability if your software blows up and how do you make a software blow up well first off you need an actual website with a website link not just local and that's what's also cool about data button is that we can basically deploy in one click if we chose to do so now if you want to see a whole video on that where we actually deploy an application and I show you how to log
[09:13] into an application using Firebase authentication eg a new user signs up and we actually have data associated with that user check out this video right here I'll also leave it in the description down below I show you a 19 minutes how to build this out with a no code tool like data button here pretty cool stuff let's keep going so now that we have the ability to search Reddit here let's be specific with data Button as well with the type of results we want which are the same prompt when I search a topic like AI I need you to search through all Reddit and find posts that are trending then give me a possible video topic I could do based on that same situation hit enter coming back
[09:43] over to bolt here we're prompted to provide our API key again so let's go and do that with that done let's go ahead and ask the same question here and hope we don't get any erors search we got some erors okay let's see what's up let's try this I will search trending topics and then use AI to analyze next best video topics give this in the output best video to do on this and then a thread of the Reddit sources pretty simple enter looking good so far here it's asking me would you like me to proceed with implementing the openi integration for generating video ideas from Reddit post yes enter in addition to what I just requested I'm going to
[10:13] have this stop being a popup and just be like right above the search bar cuz it's kind of annoying when it's a popup so let me do that I'm going go ahead and say have it so the API key is not a popup but just above the search bar enter and as you see over there data button does shine when it comes to telling you what it's actually doing so it just said that it's creating the open AI ideas backend which is basically we grab the Reddit search results and then analyze it with open AI to give me the best video topic next I like this and the reason I like this is that you can retrace your steps for example when it makes significant changes over here like creating a new backend function it's not
[10:45] necessarily clear which one's which while over here we just see it right here therefore let's test again we made it so it's not a popup so far so good I'm putting my key in there I'm saving the key let's go ahead and try to search again see if it works search okay all right so it looks like we're hting pretty significant wall here of B don't worry I'm going to keep trying at it but one thing that you'll notice that is pretty significant between these platforms is what happens in this context G if you're creating software one thing that is common no matter what
[11:16] you do is you're going to run into errors like this is non-negotiable this is like it's going to happen therefore what is the solution with Bolt the solution of Bolt is that you know you're going to keep prompting it which is not bad but what could really be good when you run into errors with data button there's this little bubble over here click it this right here is what makes this stuff super cool as what datab button guarantees and I and they guarantee this is you can talk to a software engineer to help you with any of your issues to be completely transparent with y'all when I found out that they did this you can actually talk
[11:47] to a real software engineer not just some chatbot that's huge as you get two major Returns on investment there the first one is well you run into an air you get help I mean obviously but the second big one is you're learning real applicable skills from a software engineer while solving your problem therefore what I like to call that is a win-win so check that out if you ever really run into Mega walls here dat a button is here to hell that's just super cool I like that big plus so obviously we've been hitting a wall bolt here and we don't really have the option to talk to anyone so let's keep trying this I'm
[12:18] going to go ahead and try for some reason when I search up a topic we keep getting an error from Reddit let's hit enter all right so we have our updated code here hit save key we have saved the key let's go and ask a question okay he still not working we got an air there and if we check out the air code it doesn't really help us out either because it's like search Air empty string if we go to the code it does seem a little bit overwhelming if you've never coded before because you're just like okay we got an error here but what where's the file what's even going on here all right looks like data button has finished let's try data button we'll go ahead and put in the API key right
[12:48] there we'll go ahead and put in our search topics right there hit search we got something we actually have something here all right so I'm going to scroll down here all right we got some cool stuff here okay so we got open AI Google and thic are struggling to build more advanced Ai and what's really cool here is I really like how data button it adds like little emojis I love I love a good Emoji you'll see that little cowboy had Emoji I use a lot therefore we actually want to learn more about this and to show you it's actually leveraging Reddit search API we can just click it click and when you look at that it's the actual Reddit thread and then coming down here we got what we requested so as of now we're looking at video ideas and
[13:19] video titles behind the struggles of the tech Giants why open AI Google and anthropic can't Advance AI we can take that title there look at that Reddit thread and get more context now obviously L from this we can do a ton of other stuff right so now that we have the connection of Reddit search API and open AI to analyze of AI we could get the titles we get the descriptions we could get the script for the video everything done through just a simple chat interface therefore end to end we were actually able to complete the application purpose a lot faster in data button and on top of that and I think
[13:49] the bigger thing here is that air right when you run into that air cuz that's going to happen it's like waking up and seeing the Sun the sun's always going to be there I guess for the next like 4 .6 billion years or something like that but the point is that errors are going to happen in code no matter what therefore that chat bubble over there is extremely helpful and that really pushes this platform to the next level there so that if you're running into issues with the chat over here and you find yourself hitting a wall don't worry talk to a software engineer because our situation here of Bolt right now is that I'm hitting a wall and I'm getting an airor
[14:20] code of search eror Empty string what that's not good I don't like that especially if you are going at this with a small team or as an individual you might as well stack the deck in your favor and have another team member like situation where you can talk to another software engineer to get insight of ways to develop your application better and if you run into situations therefore we can come to the consensus at the end here that I feel like if you want to build a real application use data button I'm not completely against bolt but the situation of Bolt this feels much more minimal viable product MVP even the user
[14:52] interface itself feeds into this idea right like notice when we create a new application in Bolt it's just an input box when in reality when we sawell that with data button it's step by step of everything that's relevant to an actual application with simple deployment as well therefore if you come over to bolt though you think the best step to create an application is just a simple input box that concludes today's video if you want to see how to setep authentication EG allowing users to sign into your software check out the video at the end here pretty cool stuff here I show you 19 minutes without further Ado make sure to leave a like it's completely free is
[15:23] it free Corbin it's free and I'll see you the next video data button data button random videos that's my face I'll see you in the next video
